Seokmin on
Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Seokmin began his musical journey in Philadelphia in the United States where he studied with Charles Abramovic at Temple University Preparatory. During his time there, he gathered many national honors including prizes at the Korean Philadelphia Piano Competition, and Tri-County Piano Competition. Additionally, he won the first prize at Marion Garcia International Piano Competition and made his orchestral debut with Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra performing Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto.
He received a Bachelor’s degree and Performer Diploma at Indiana University Bloomington. In a pursuit of knowledge, he moved to Germany to study with Fabio Bidini at Hochschule für und Tanz Köln. After completing his Master’s degree, he continued to deepen his musical maturity under the guidance of Claudio Martínez Mehner and Nina Tichman for a Konzertexamen.
To satisfy his constant curiosity, he travelled around the globe for musical inspiration and played for renowned musicians including Marc Durand, André Laplante, Alexei Volodin, Alexander Melnikov, Dina Yoffe, Norma Fisher, Severin von Eckardstein, and Matti Raekallio. As an active soloist and collaborator, he has performed throughout Europe including Germany, France, Croatia, Serbia and Romania, and was invited for chamber music recitals at venues such as the Korean Embassy in Bonn and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
His teaching approach is grounded in personal learning experience and a deep understanding of individual challenges. His meaning in teaching is an opportunity to open musical worlds and to inspire students in a lasting way. With empathy and patience, he guides learners of all ages on their musical journey. Making music together and fostering personal growth are at the heart of his teaching.
